Mark Sperling from group Y (and other places) sent me this as a follow-up from MediaPost.

Speaking of, have you checked out group Y? Networking groups can be hit or miss in our industry, but I've seen group Y progress from happy hours to actual events worth paying money for where you actually can learn something, as well as network. And despite my friendship with the people running group Y, I do pay to attend the events (although I'm sure they'd let me in for free... but that's lame to ask).

Of course, networking is a lot like going to a party. If you just sit in the corner with a frown on your face, you're probably not going to get much out of it. If you're totally sloshed, well, no one is going to want to talk to you either. And if you happen to be single looking to mingle (or network to find a job/new project), maybe try chatting up some people you don't already know.
